As a special contribution to the Cooperative Year 2012, we were commissioned a study on the economic significance of cooperatives in the Netherlands. The study was published by the National Cooperative Council for agriculture and horticulture in the Netherlands (NCR) on 3 May 2012. The study includes a Netherlands Cooperative Top 100 ranking (in Dutch). The statistical tables should make some sense. The section “European Agribusiness Cooperative Top 100” is included elsewhere on this website, with a provisional English translation.

Some of the highlights are:
* total cooperative revenues estimated at 111 bn euro;
* which may be expressed as equivalent to 19% of the Dutch GDP figure;
* total employment 166.000 FTE;
* total memberships: 24 milion (duplicate countings: almost 2 memberships per Dutchman);
* revenues of largest 43 cooperatives equate to 41% of the 43 Amsterdam listed companies;
